At 180 Skate it is our mission to create a safe and inclusive space where kids can connect, relate, and skate. 180 Skate is a 501(c) non-profit organization based in Sarasota, FL. 180 Skate is an outreach that shows that everyone deserves to be loved and we can do that through skateboarding. We host various after school programs, summer camps, girl meet ups, and community outreach. Our long term mission is to have our own local community space where all are welcome.
Our Vision
We envision 180 Skate as a safe, well supervised, fun, and welcoming organization dedicated to providing kids and the less fortunate with opportunities to experience activities that strengthen our community, create friendships, and new interests. At 180 Skate it is our vision to make sure everyone feels welcomed and give kids a place to look forward to coming to. Our ultimate goal is to have a facility that fosters inclusive community participation for local youth.
Tim was born and raised in Sarasota, FL and still lives there with his amazing family. He has been married to his wife Stacy for 30 years. She also is a Floridian, teaches PE at Brentwood Elementary and coaches girls volleyball at Brookside Middle School. She loves being outside, staying active and has a huge heart for kids. His son Tanner is 24 and graduated from Ringling Art School with a degree in film and is now working full time at a local studio in Sarasota as he pursues his career in film. His hobbies are writing, filming, music, movies and reptiles. His daughter Sydney is 20 and is attending Valdosta State University in Georgia. She is majoring in sports media and broadcasting. She is currently on the girls rugby team and skateboards. The entire family loves traveling and they have been on multiple mission trips together and plan to visit even more places.
Tim was lucky enough while growing up to have his own half pipe in his back yard and some awesome parents that let kids come over to skate. Back then there was four half pipes in Sarasota and when they were not skating them they would just put ramps on their cars and drive them to empty parking lots to skate because they had no skate park. Skateboarding was an outlet for Tim. Yes there was some good times and some not so good times. But it taught him that people actually cared about him and skateboarders were no different then any other person or athlete. It has directed him on the path of caring about everyone he comes in contact with. Through skateboarding he has been able to reach people that others would turn their back on. It has taught him that we all have a passion to do what we love to impact those around us and make them better people. Skateboarding is that passion for Tim.
Tim started 180 Skate in 2013 when he kept seeing kids skate by the church where he was the youth director at. He would watch the kids skate by as they were heading to the skatepark. He decided to throw some ramps out back and invite some kids to skate and stay for youth group. As attendance grew he built a small indoor skatepark up above the gym at the church. Along with hanging with kids at local parks, helping with contests, taking skaters on skate trips and running free skate camps. In 2020 he took on another job and helped open The 180 Houses. While running the Sarasota house he added multiple ramps and built a small little out door park. All of these years of having 180 Skate it was always under someone else. In 2023 180 Skate became its own non profit.
Tim is ready to continue doing what he has been called to do and to see skateboarding change lives of those around him.
